Mrs. Shameka White-James

Shameka Rosha White James was born on June 27, 1980 to the union of Dorothy White and the late Robert L. White Sr. in Columbus, Mississippi. She confessed Christ at an early age at Sixth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bobby E. Woodrick Sr. She later became a member of Glenn Chapel CME Church under the leadership of Pastor Raphael Terry where she served as the Choir President. Shameka was a faithful servant of God, a true woman of prayer, and an example of Christian love in action. She found joy in serving others, singing praises, and sharing her faith. Her unwavering trust in the Lord was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day with gratitude and purpose. She was a 1998 Honor Graduate of Columbus High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2001from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. While at MUW, she was a member of the Pi Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and a member of the Coretta Social Club. Shameka later joined the Nu Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated in Columbus and the Heroines of Joshua Order of Eastern Star where she served as the Treasurer. She was a teacher for 7 years in a number of schools before retiring due to her health. She was not only a devoted sister but also a loving aunt, cousin, and friend. Her smile could brighten even the darkest days, and her laughter filled our hearts with joy. She made every family gathering special and reminded us all of the importance of love, unity, and faith. Shameka was preceded in death by her father, Robert Louis White Sr., brothers Robert Louis White Jr., and Fredrick DeWayne White. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy White of Columbus, MS; sisters: Linda (Willie) Brown Memphis, TN, Melissa Johnson of Columbus, MS, and LeTashia White of Southaven, MS; brothers: Gevoris (Kelli) McCrary of Indianapolis, IN and Steve Sanders of Columbus, MS; two best friends: Veronica Stewart of Columbus, MS and Jeremy Turner of Columbus, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Though she has left this earthly home, we rejoice knowing she has gained her heavenly reward. Her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, and her memory will forever remain a blessing.
