Jesse Will Ussery

June 28, 1941 - December 29, 2020

On the morning of Tuesday, December 29,2020, Master Sergeant (Retired), U.S. Army Reserves, Jesse Will Ussery received his last Permanent Duty Station (PDS) to heaven. Another soldier gone home to rest. Jesse was born in Steens, Lowndes County, Mississippi on June 28, 1941 to the late James Ussery and Alberta (Hudson) Ussery. During his life there was someone special for over 55 years; his wife Mrs. Lucinda (Shepard) Ussery. Together, they gave birth to three children Janice Marie Ussery of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Bernadette Ussery of Houston, Texas and Gregory Neal Ussery of Birmingham, Alabama. He was the proud grandfather of three beautiful and handsome grandchildren; Indya Ma’Ree Ussery of Houston, Texas, Nicholas and Neal Ussery of Atlanta, Georgia. Awaiting Jesse at his new permanent duty station in heaven is his mother Alberta (1910-1960) and father James (1912-1985), three brothers: James Ira Ussery (1933-2003), Burrell Lee Ussery (1948-2008) and Reverend Sgt 1st Class Hudson Ussery (1937-2018) and his sister Mattie Lou Bynum (1939-2010). In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he leaves to cherish his memories are his brother Albert B. Ussery of Providence, RI and two sisters Mrs. Nettie Lue Richardson and husband Alvin T. Richardson Sr. of Warwick, RI, and Mrs. Lucy Ware and husband Edward Ware of Alsip, IL, and sister-in-law Mrs. Rosa Ussery of Columbus, GA. He also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Master Sgt. Jesse Will Ussery retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in June 2001. He was educated in the Columbus, Mississippi school system and received his bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI, in August 1973. He received Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi, and later became a member of the Deacon Board. He was also a member of the Deacon Board at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Providence, RI. How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity. It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
