Mr. Johnny "Jack" Bernard Anderson

February 26, 1943 - November 28, 2020

Johnny Anderson, age 77, entered into eternal peace at his home in Columbus, MS on Saturday, November 28, 2020. He was born February 26, 1943, in Macon, MS, Noxubee County to the late Joseph and Priscilla Williams Anderson. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. As a high schooler, he kept himself busy by working daily at Jack Hunter’s Grocery Store until he graduated from B. F. Liddell High School in 1961. Jack would often say, “Working there taught me how to work and made a man out of me." After graduating from high school, he moved to Chicago where he became employed at Continental Can Co. rendering over 30 years of service. During this time, he met and married Dora Anderson, thus becoming the father of five stepchildren. Johnny was a hard working man and enjoyed every minute of it. In his leisure time, you could often find him playing cards, bowling, and watching football with his buddies, Kelvin and Jimmy. After retirement, he moved back home to take care of his mother and reunited with the St. Paul U.M. Church. Jack was a faithful, caring and supportive member. He was an usher, choir member, and took pride in cooking, serving, and working in the kitchen. The community was blessed to have him as a man who helped others unconditionally. He was a committed member of The Maconite Club in Macon and served as president for over 5 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife, stepdaughter, Nira Harris of IL; two brothers, David and Joseph Anderson of Macon, MS; one sister, Pearl Anderson of Chicago IL. He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Maggie Doyle of Chicago, IL and Marie Cotton (Rickey) of Lansing, MI; four stepchildren, Ralph Purnell, Jacquelynn Purnell , Laina Alexander (Leon) , and Vanessa McCaskill (Archie) all of IL.; one uncle James Otis Ivy, Sr. of Macon, MS; several grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and a companion, Arnetta Green of Columbus, MS.
