Mr. Joe Lee

Joe Lee, 79, of Columbus, MS, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025. He was born on February 2,1946 in Lowndes County, MS to the late Levi and Ella Wee Lee. Joe was the beloved husband of Jeanne Lee. Joe lived a life full of kindness, laughter, and devoted service to his God, Jehovah. On June 13, 1981, he symbolized his dedication through baptism and from that time forward faithfully served as a pioneer (full-time evangelizer), sharing his hope as a ministerial servant in the Central Columbus, MS Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses until his death. On June 16, 1979, Joe married the love of his life, Jeanne. Each anniversary, Joe faithfully sent Jeanne flowers to commemorate the bond they shared. Together they built a family rooted in love and unity, raising their children Derek Lee (Sandusky, OH), Laura Russell (Butler, AL), and Latrese Lee (Euclid, OH). Joe’s career spanned more than 25 years at Ford Motor Company in Lorain, OH. After retiring, he became an entrepreneur, working as a mechanic and lawn care professional. Beyond his work, Joe cherished his ministry, enjoyed winemaking and was an avid fisherman. Those who knew Joe will remember his favorite sayings “That dog don’t hunt” and “Lee Boy.” He never met a stranger, always welcomed others with hospitality, loved cooking peanuts, and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends Joe’s life leaves behind an example of faith, generosity, and warmth that will be cherished by all who knew him. Wife, Jeanne Lee (Columbus, MS), his children, Derek Lee (Sandusky, OH), Laura Russell (Butler, AL) and Latrese Lee (Euclid, OH). His siblings, Eugene Poindexter, Carzell Lee, Sandy Lee (Carol), Nathaniel Lee (Columbus, MS), Cleveland Lee (Cleveland, OH), and Doreatha Hill (Atlanta, GA), 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Best friend, R.C. Slaughter and special friends James Bush, Derrick Nash, Greg Wright, the entire elder and ministerial servant body in the Central Columbus Congregation. He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Ella Wee Lee, and siblings, Sammie Lee, Tommie Lee, Walter James Lee, Carrie Cook and Mattie Green.
